History of Vue Cinema
Since its opening in May of 2003, Vue Cinemas is continuously building up its fine reputation differentiating it from the rest of the UK cinema chains. Today, Vue is one of the largest players in the industry, with hundreds of screens around the country.
Vue Cinemas came about after SBC International Cinemas (now Vue), took over Warner Village Cinemas and rebranded them as Vue. Its non-stop expansion across the country has been a phenomenal effort from the company, its management, and it employees. Of course, we can’t forget to thank the loyal customers for coming back over and over again.
In 2012, Vue acquired Apollo Cinemas and took over the operations of CinemaxX in Denmark and Germany. Further acquisitions followed, and in 2013, they became the new owners of Multikino cinemas, with locations in Lithuania, Poland, and Latvia. We’re not done just yet.
Vue has gone on to acquire to more chains, The Space Cinema in Italy, and the second largest cinema chain in the Netherlands, JT Bioscopen.
All of these acquisitions bring the total number of locations owned by the Vue Cinema Group to over 200. Not bad for a company started just over 10 years ago!
Some more numbers for you:
- It’s currently the third largest cinema chain in the UK – coming in behind Odeon Cinemas (#1) and Cineworld (#2).
- Over 813 screens are available in Vue’s arsenal to allow the latest films to be shown.
- 265 of those screens are fully equipped for 3D functionality, and 2 are ready to go with IMAX.
Vue now operates cinemas ni the following countries from Europe and Asia – United Kingdom, Ireland, Denmark, Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Taiwan, Italy, Netherlands.
Today, the chain operates 85 cinemas across the United Kingdom, with some 60 percent of the population within or near one of their locations. Vue has been, and likely always will be, one of the go-to cinemas for all of its customers.
Vue Cinema Innovations
Vue has three types of seating in which patrons can choose from, each at a varying level of luxury. The first and the most common style of cinema seating throughout the world is the stadium seating. Just because they’re common, though, doesn’t mean they aren’t awesomely comfortable. Plus, you’ll never miss a single moment on the screen due to the tiered levelling.
Coming in second are the VIP seats. These bad boys are super spacious, ultra comfortable, in the optimal viewing location, and may just be one of the best ways to enjoy a flick on the big screen.
Lastly, but certainly not the least, is the recliner. Yes, you read it right. Vue offers recliner seats in a few of its special locations. These recliners are your ticket to the dream-like movie experience you’ve been waiting for. Padded leather, electric reclining at the touch of a button, and you choose when it stops. What more could you ask for?!
If you aren’t solely focused on comfort, Vue’s still got you covered. Every single one of their 1,200 screens around the world house only the best. And the best at the moment is the Sony 4K Digital projection system. Images so sharp you could cut paper with them. Colours so vibrant you may need sunglasses. Couple it with 3D, and you’re in for a hell of a time.
As you know, we aren’t in the 20th Century anywhere, and silent films don’t seem to be making a comeback anytime soon. In the 21st Century, the screen is only half the equation – top quality audio is essential. Which is why Vue is proud to announce many of its locations run the Dolby ATMOS sound system.
Finally, let us introduce you to the wonderfully magnificent –VueXtreme. Super sized screens running 16 metres along the ground, then climbing up to over 7 metres high. That’s bigger than a Tyrannosaurus Rex. We aren’t kidding. A T-Rex grew to a maximum of 12 metres long by 6 metres high. Hang on, that means a T-Rex on the VueXtreme screen will be bigger than one if it were real! Technology is awesome!
How Much Do Vue Cinema Tickets Cost?
Vue Cinema not only attracts many movie-lovers to its cinemas because of the latest technology they have but also because their ticket prices are unbelievably well priced. Compared with a few of the other cinema chains around the place, we have to say, Vue Cinema’s ticket prices are some of the most fairly priced tickets we’ve come across. And we’ve come across a lot.
If you’ve already downloaded the price list for the specific location you’re looking for, you’ll notice on the bottom half there are a few extra add-ons which you can choose from. For example, 3D screens, IMAX, VIP seats, and VueXtreme movies may incur additional charges which will be added to the ticket cost.
This way, those who wish to upgrade their experience to a more luxurious one, may do so without inhibiting the ability of the lower-budget customer to continue seeing movies.
Vue Super Day Ticket Discounts
In additional to the optional extras available, Vue has a number of offers which movie-goers can take advantage off to reduce the final price of their ticket. One of their most famous ones, which is commonly used around the world as well, is discounted tickets on certain days.
We’ve got good news, every single Vue location listed above has a special discount day! For most of them, that day falls on a Tuesday. All you have to do is head to this page, and sign up to receive the promo code to be used when purchasing your tickets online.
Please note if you’re cinema is one of the following locations, the offer is valid on Mondays instead:
- Reading
- Scunthorpe
- Livingston
- Bury The Rock
- Birmingham

- Newbury
From the price table above, you’ll also have noticed students and seniors are eligible for discounts as well. Seniors get one leg up over the students, though, as they receive a fee cuppa and a biscuit with their ticket at senior screenings!
Comparethemarket.com has recently gone on a tirade in the movie industry, partnering with many of the cinemas to provide its customers with a special offer only for Meerkat Movie members. If you’re a member, you get 2-for-1 movie tickets on Tuesday and Wednesday for a whole year. Yep, a whole year.
