AMC
If you’re looking for luxury at a valuable price, you’re best bet is to head to one of your local AMC theaters. Jumping on the bandwagon, AMC is now one of many national cinema chains combining the classic movie & a dinner night out, under one roof.
With dinner menus combining exquisite gourmet inventions with your classic theater snacks, we reckon you’ll be more blown away by the food itself than the movie up on the screen.
Many of their dine-in locations are equipped with a fully-licensed bar, allowing you to achieve the perfect buzz for the coming adventure.
Exactly 42 of their locations are serving up these premium menus, and many are equipped with the appropriate seating to match. By appropriate we mean your bum will be thanking you for days to come.
We’ve yet to find one with beds, but the luxurious recliners you’ll find at most of them? Yep – they’ll do more than just fine.

Cinépolis Luxury
Cinépolis have created their luxury experience in order to maintain their position as one of the nation’s leading world-class cinemas in this extremely competitive environment.
As such, one of their main points of difference is their goal to provide an upscale, family-friendly movie-going experience allowing their patrons a safe, intimate, and (extremely) comfortable environment.
By extremely comfortable – you can bet we mean it. The luxurious experiences you’ll find at the five locations above, all come with over-sized leather seats (you can bet they’re fully reclining) and in-seat waiter service.
Did we mention they’re also on standby with a gourmet kitchen – concocting delights your taste buds don’t even know they’re screaming for. We can’t forget the licensed bar, either. That one’s a definite plus.

Regal & Edwards & UA
Regal have been going all out over the past few years, tearing out their traditional seating in hundreds of their locations – replacing them with the modern day experience.
Hey – what exactly do you mean by the modern day experience?
We mean luxury, and Regal does too (and their subsidiaries – Edwards and UA). At all of the locations above, you now have the option of plomping your hard working body down on one of their king sized luxury recliners.
Cozy and comfortable don’t even begin to describe their coziness and comfortability. Although they do a pretty good job.
Tell us those recliners don’t look tempting. You can’t.
Did we mention the padded footrests? No? Well your feet will be thanking you, because they all have padded footrests.
Do you think there’s a point when movie theater seating becomes too comfortable and we all just fall asleep whilst watching the movie? Neither did we.
We took to the streets and found out what people are saying. By the streets we mean Google.

The newly reconstruction upgrades are awesome, we loved the reclining seats. Oh before l forget be very careful not to loose you cell phone while reclining back in the very comfortable seats. Emagine
They call it Luxury Seating, we call it Luxurious Seating. The difference? Luxurious seating is more luxurious than luxury seating – pretty simple really.
Emagine Theaters has two different types of seating taking your comfiness to the next level. Their flagship, and the one which got them included in this list, is their power recliners.
These bad boys are humongous, fully-electric, and will leave you feeling like your sitting on a bag of the fluffiest pillows the pillow factories can produce.
An honorable mention goes to their leather rockers. Because who doesn’t like rocking chairs? Crazy people – that’s who. And we’re all completely sane here (trust us…we are).
Not all of their locations are fitted with the new seating at the moment, but over time you can expect them to be rolled out across all their theater locations.
You know what Emagine thinks, you know what we think, now we’ll tell you what everyone else thinks.
The Emagine theaters host the best movie going experiences I’ve had. Reasonable ticket prices, online ticket sales where you reserve the actual seats you will have and very comfy powered recliners. The staff is friendly and helpful. Emagine gets the easiest 5 star rating possible. – Greg Schneider

Harkins
At a carefully selected three locations under the management of Harkins Theaters, there is something special looming.
CINÉ 1™ which, as you can see is clearly their’s to own by the trademark symbol, is their unique creation showing the rest of the cinemas chains in the industry – Harkins is here, and they’re ready to rumble with the great white buffalos.
Harkins itself claims their CINÉ 1™ experience is the pinnacle of motion picture presentation. Now that’s a claim if there ever was one.
It boasts an 80 foot screen, over 105,000 watts of Dolby ATMOS 3D Surround Sound, and ‘gold waterfall drapes’ (fancy buggers) which reveal the screen each session. However, we aren’t really interested in any of that.
We only care about one thing today – the seats. And we’re pleased to say, Harkins hasn’t skimped in this department – not one cent (not 100% accurate).
Their CINÉ 1™ auditoriums are equipped with 400 plush leather reclining Ultimate Lounger seats. Plush & leather – two words which always lead to a good sentence.
With such a movie-going experience available, we had to see for ourselves what the thoughts were of those who’ve already taken the plunge.
Very fun and nice experience. I happened to sit in theater 1 which had amazing reclining seats and offer food delivery, handicap seating, and easy close bathroom access. Great quality place to go. – Serina Kesler

iPic
You know, you can’t talk about luxury theaters in the United States without the including the ever-legendary iPic Theaters.
To date – they are the only theater in the country which have permanent beds located in some of their locations (that we’re aware of). That alone shoots them straight to the top of America’s most luxurious theaters list.
Did you notice three of the four theaters with beds are located in New York? No surprise there – only the best for the city which sometimes sleeps.
Look at that. Just look at it. That one photo alone perfectly sums up what iPic represents. A pure, luxurious movie theater experience.
If you’ve never gone before, we’d highly recommend giving it a go. Even if it is just the one time – it’ll blow your curious little mind.

On the pricey side of movie theaters, BUT! Well worth it. I personally don’t think the vibe is suitable for action movies or what not (not sure they even screen that type of movies) but for movies that really pull you into the story it’s perfect! Marcus Theaters
Think about it for a second. If you owned a chain of movie theaters, and decided to upgrade the traditional stadium style seating into something a bit more fancy (beds & recliners for example) – what would you call them?
- Fancy Chairs
- Reclining Clouds
- FUYB (feathers under your bum)
- TTSAWWTM (try to stay awake whilst watching this movie)
No? Yeah – none of them really have the ring to it, you know? That ring that chimes out, and instantly re-creates a pleasing memory in your mind.
Thankfully, we don’t own any cinema chains, so we won’t get to name them Feathers Under Your Bum. We’ll leave that to the professionals. Marcus Theaters is one of those professionals.
They’ve aptly named their custom reclining seats – DreamLounger™. Fully automatic and provides you with over 7 feet of room to stretch out it? What more could you ask for.
Well, we’re going to ask for one more thing – we want to know what the lucky people who’ve already experienced them had to say.
You can buy drinks at the bar and take them into the movie!!! The reclining leather seats are amazing!!! Just bring a jacket, they keep it cold. Also, the rewards program=free food!! – Margo Erickson
This theatre has multiple ways to purchase tickets and any way is pretty easy and a fast process including through the ticket taker. The chairs in the dream lounge theatres are all I go to. They are so comfortable and my husband and I get the seats that are actually connected so we can raise the armrest and cuddle. – Sarah Knutson

MJR
Have you ever thought about the perfect movie experience? You know, that time when the theater gets the movies just right. Did you see what we did there?
MJR Theaters stands for Movies Just Right – and we used it in a sentence before we told you. Damn we’re smooth.
With that in mind, there’s only one thing we’re pretty certain is smoother than us. And that’s the leather recliners MJR have fitted at five of their locations around the United States.
They’re not just leather recliners, though….no. These seats are Luxury VIP Electric Recliners. You know they mean business when their seats require four words to name them.
We’ve yet to find an MJR location with a bed though. You know what to do if you do – tell us.
A few others have already caught a few flicks on them. Let’s see what they thought.

Movie Tavern
Although many of their locations do feature recliners, and many have plans for the upgrade in the near future, we struggled big time to find any detailed information regarding them.
We assumed they would have recliners, based on the full-service amenities they offer such as in-seat waiter service and a licensed bar, and we were right.
But it was only confirmed thanks to plenty of people reviewing their experience on Google & Yelp listing.
MJR themselves have very little information on the reclining seats. Except for a few press releases stating upgrades in certain locations have been completed and are now fitted with luxury recliners with tables and call buttons.
Ah well – give up your local MJR a call if you want to double check before hand.
Back to those reviews, we’ll let you in on a few which tipped us off.
The movie experience is amazing. Very comfortable reclining seats and the sound is very nice. The food is not that good. They keep changing the menu and taking off stuff that I liked. Servers are hit or miss. – Nathan Baylot

Studio Movie Grill
Lastly, but most certainly not the leastly – the great innovators over at Studio Movie Grill are joining the list.
They claim their movie-going experience they offer is unlike any other entertainment experience. And we’re quite inclined to believe them following the next sentence we read.
We’ve created an immersive movie-going experience with custom luxury recliners paired with laser projection, studio extreme large format auditoriums, and Q-SYS sound systems so you can enjoy this season’s biggest blockbuster, take in a family feature, or host a private event.
How could you say no. You can’t. Because you’re a Yes Man!

What comes next?
We’ve gone from drive-in theaters (bring your own chair), to normal seats, to stadium-style seating, to loungers, to recliners, to beds, to chairs that can rumble in the jungle, but what comes after that?
Eventually chairs will angle so far back we’ll start watching them upside down. Come to think of it, more blood to the head can only mean more focus on the movie…right?
Maybe we’ll finally find out how them Aussie’s watch movies down under.
